graphic for instructional calendars available

On December 11, 2023, the JPS Board of Education approved the instructional calendars for the next two school years (2024-2025 and 2025-2026). Both calendars can be viewed here.

After gathering feedback from stakeholders - staff, parents, and students - the JPS Instructional Calendar Committee emphasized the importance of ending the school year before Memorial Day. To achieve this goal, the calendars for the next two years have been shortened by six instructional days. The school day has been lengthened by 15 minutes to make up the instructional time. School start times will be 10 minutes earlier and school end times will be 5 minutes later starting in the 2024-25 school year.

The Calendar Committee, made up of 55 staff representatives, parents/guardians, and secondary students, met twice in November to consider multiple calendar options. Ending the school year before Memorial Day makes the JPS calendar comparable to surrounding districts and allows students more flexibility to participate in summer activities. The new calendars will also help JPS with staff recruitment and retention.

The first days of school in 2024 and 2025 are on a Thursday in the second full week of August to ease transitions for students and staff. Both calendars include a full week off during the week of Thanksgiving and provide more balance in the number of instructional days in each semester.
