Tara Day and Taylor Jones

The past year was full of the usual excitement, new beginnings, learning experiences, and a bustling school year, but for two teachers, a special connection made this school year truly unforgettable.

Taylor Jones, a bright and passionate music teacher, began her first year at Jenks East Elementary with a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation. Settling in on the teachers’ first official report day, she looked over her list of classes and recognized a teacher’s name- Mrs. Day. Intrigued and hopeful, she walked the halls to find Mrs. Day’s classroom to see if it was the same teacher, previously Ms. Cash, who had been her 1st and 2nd grade teacher at West Elementary.

To Taylor's amazement, there stood her beloved teacher, still radiating the warmth and enthusiasm that Taylor remembered so well. Mrs. Day, too, was taken aback as she recognized Taylor immediately. “You look the same, but all grown up!” The joyful reunion was filled with laughter and heartfelt reminiscences.

“I learned so much about how I want to teach from her. My whole family loved her. She taught my sister too. But, what was so cool was that she still had some of my work from years ago. She remembered me.”

Their story is a testament to the lasting impact that teachers can have on their students. The connection between Taylor, now Miss Jones, and Mrs. Day has brought a unique and beautiful dynamic to Jenks East Elementary, inspiring both their colleagues and their students.

As Taylor flourishes in her new role, she carries with her the lessons and inspiration from her own days as a student in Mrs. Day's class. Together, they are shaping the future, one student at a time, with the same dedication and love for teaching that brought them together in the first place. This serves as a reminder of the enduring power of education and the special bonds that can last a lifetime.
