The holiday season is here and we are racing to the end of the semester! See what's happening here at the Freshman Academy this month.
Finals and Finals Prep Week
The Freshman Academy encourages students to understand the importance and significance of final exams. We hold a Finals Prep Week where they will focus on reviewing and studying for those exams. That will start three days before final exams, December 16th-18th.
We will have our Final exams on the last two days of the semester:
Thursday 12/19 – Hours 0,1,3,5
Friday 12/20 – Hours 0,2,4,6
Report cards
As the semester ends, you may ask your student, “Where is your report card?!”.
We will finalize our grades by Monday, January 13, and then you will receive the report cards via mail.
Winter Break
JPS observes Winter Break from December 23rd-January 6th.
We return to school on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025.
Attendance Matters
Please make sure that your student is attending regularly. If your student misses more than 10% of the semester, without a valid excuse, they could fail their classes due to attendance. Please be sure to call in your student if they are absent to Mrs. Shari Buckley at ext .2278.
Our Assistant Principals will be reaching out to you and your student if they are in danger of attendance failure.
Shoutout to Mrs. Smalley's classes
Mrs. Smalley has been an active viewer of CNN Student News with Carl Azuz for 11 years. Mrs. Smalley and her students reached out to the show for a shout out. On Monday, December 2nd, Mrs. Smalley’s classes got that shout out! Way to go Coach Smalley’s classes!

Please note that next Friday, December 13th, is a Distance Learning/Collaboration Day for all JPS school sites.

CogAT Screening February 12, 2025
On February 12, 2025, freshmen will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) between 9:15 am and 12:30 pm. This test “measures general reasoning abilities in three domains: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal.” (https://www.riversideinsights.com/apps/cogat).
At Jenks Public Schools, we use this instrument to identify students who are eligible for gifted services as regulated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Unless your student is exempt from this screening, we encourage your student to be in attendance. If possible, avoid scheduling appointments during the screening time.
Some of our students in our Gifted and Talented program as well as some in other programs are exempt from this screening. If your student is exempt from the CogAT, you will receive a separate communication from me soon. Students who are exempt will report to the Building 6 Auditorium (inside Building 6 of Jenks HIgh School) during any class period that is held in the Freshman Academy. Students who are exempt will report to High School classes as usual.
Virtual students may choose to participate but are not required to. All CogAT screening must be done in person on school grounds. If you DO NOT want your student to participate, you do not need to do anything further. Your student will have the opportunity to participate in this screening next year if they do not take it this year.
