AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an in-school academic support program for grades 9-12 that prepares students for college eligibility and success. The program is for all students, but it targets those in the academic middle or those who may be the first in their families to attend college. It is a college preparatory program that requires enrollment in rigorous curriculum. AVID fosters leadership skills, organizational and study skills, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. 

AVID requires...

  • enrollment in the AVID elective (meets daily during the academic year).

  • an increase in the rigor of study through enrollment in at least one Advanced Placement or Pre-Advanced Placement course each year (9th-12th grades).

  • commitment to one hour of studying each night.    

  • completion of the recommended curriculum for college bound students.
