Shannon davis new JWI principal

Jenks Public Schools announced the promotion of Shannon Davis to the position of Site Principal at Jenks West Intermediate, pending approval by the JPS Board of Education. Davis spent the past three years as an Assistant Principal at West Intermediate. She takes over the role from Michelle Sumner who is retiring in June after working as Site Principal for the last 25 years and devoting 40 years of service to Jenks Public Schools.

“I am energized and excited to lead Jenks West Intermediate into its next chapter,” Davis stated. We will continue to build a student-centered, connected, and innovative school community where students, staff, and families thrive. I have learned so much from Michelle’s guidance and the example she has set daily for staff and students to follow. I am grateful for her mentorship and friendship and all she has done to make West Intermediate such an incredible place to work and learn.”

Davis brings over 25 years of experience in education and a deep passion for student learning to the Site Principal role. She is committed to cultivating a strong, supportive school culture, while centering her leadership style around continuous improvement, strategic use of data, and empowering both students and staff to grow and thrive.

“I was inspired to become a principal because I believe in the power of strong relationships, intentional leadership, and creating spaces where every student and staff member feels seen, supported, and challenged to grow,” remarked Davis.

From 2011 to 2022, Davis served as a Teaching and Learning Specialist at Jenks West Intermediate, where she coached teachers in leading practices, managed testing and curriculum efforts, led intervention planning, and facilitated professional development. She began her career in 1999 at Garfield Elementary in Sand Springs Public Schools, before joining Jenks West Intermediate in 2008 as a 5th grade math and science teacher. Her classroom experience helped shape her belief in the power of student engagement, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

Davis holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Education in School Administration from Northeastern State University. She is an Oklahoma Certified Principal and became National Board Certified in 2004.

Davis is happily married to her husband, Jeff, and together they share four kids—Raylee, Brennen, Kyle, and Braxton.
