Students have been busy discovering new facts about the mascot in our JEE Reads book The Worst Mascot Ever. Although armadillos are not native to Connecticut, as our story discusses, we do have these critters here in Oklahoma! It is has been enlightening to learn more about them and the role of a mascot in a school community. Great job, Mrs. Griffith's class for these cool JEE Armadillos!
In Mrs. Neal-Spears class, creativity + writing + hard work = these adorable snow globe writings! Check out the incredible content, mechanics and penmanship our 4th grade students have exhibited through this imaginative writing prompt. Thank you Mrs. Neal-Spears for such an entertaining way for students to practice their skills and demonstrate growth!
JEE Reads 2025 is underway! We cannot wait to hear what families think about our new book The Big Idea Gang: The Worst Mascot Ever. Our pep rally last Friday was a huge success to reveal our book and get our students excited to read this book. We cannot thank our community enough for making it so much fun to learn! A special thank you to our mascots that joined us and the Jenks JV pom squad!

When a tree had to be removed from our campus, students took notice - particularly 2nd grader Brooks Elmer. He was not pleased with the tree removal because it was his favorite tree. "It was my favorite tree because it was so big and old!" he says. Brooks decided to take action to replace what was lost. He started talking to his mom about it and she encouraged him to talk to his teacher about it. His teacher, Susan Cunningham, listened to what Brooks had to say and decided to take his passion and turn it into action. His class came alongside him and researched types of trees to plant. After conducting this research, his class decided to send this information out to the entire campus and each class voted on the type of tree they wanted. After the vote was completed, the winner was clear... RED MAPLE! Stay tuned for the process of how this tree is planted and the steps taken to ensure we get to enjoy this tree for a long time. Great job Brooks, his classmates and their teachers, Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. Diaz, for supporting your students!
Mrs. Perez's 4th grade class has been researching the Macy's Day Parade and the holiday of Thanksgiving. The first day, they read the book Balloons Over Broadway, watched a couple of YouTube videos about the history of the parade and learned how the float balloons are made. On the second day, students brainstorm themes they might want to do and then they choose the one they will use. Then, they sketch out their design. On the third day, they begin making their balloons. Finally, students can present their choice and display in the hall! What a fun and creative way to be part of the design experience of one of our country's time honored traditions.
Happy Thanksgiving, Trojans!
