With the Paris Olympics wrapping up and the Paralympics starting soon, the JMS library decided to capitalize on the popularity of NBC's hype man with the library orientation program "Go for the Gold when you Snoop for Snoop!" 8th grade students were invited to find the 20 Snoop Dogg's taped up around the library. This activity got them up and moving while reminding them where key places in the library were located.

Welcome back JMS family! Happy first day of school!

Last week, Officers M. Weldin and O. Bonner made a special visit to Mr. Rose's first and second-hour classes at Jenks Middle School. Officer Weldin engaged students with insightful discussions on leadership, public safety, and his valuable experiences in that field.

"Bus driver Ruth Covington brought student, Brennan Hall, into my office this morning with a huge smile on her face. She has worked with Brennan most of the year and asked him for fish on Friday. It has been an ongoing joke between the two. Today, Brenna brought her fish on Friday. She was happy with his creativity and it truly made her week!" -Ray Weis, Assistant Principal

Students in Ms. Nichol's 7th Grade Social Studies class have been hard at work, researching various countries in Africa 🌍and making "newscast" videos to teach their classmates all about the history and culture of their country. They had so much fun experimenting with green screens and video editing too!📹

"You catch more flies with honey..." 🍯
With over 22,000 books 📚checked out this year from the JMS library, sometimes hosting a book return reward program really helps get books back. Thank you ELA teachers who helped the library run this program. A special shout out to Ms Reiter who had 100% of her students clear their accounts! 🙌 The librarians and future readers appreciate it!

This semester students in Mrs. Swift's 7th Grade Advanced Science class got their hands dirty by growing their own plants from seed in the Greenhouse! What started as a little brainstorming session in February ended up with many full grown plants in May. Students grew everything from tomatoes and cucumbers to sunflowers and morning glories. They finished the semester by displaying their plants for the other general Science classes to tour. Great job, Advanced Science gardeners!

Today Mrs. Swift and Dr. Nolte's Advanced Science and Mrs. Swift's 2nd hour classes had the opportunity to hear from Jeffrey Fox, a horticulturist from Tulsa Botanic Garden. Students got to see photos of the Tulsa Botanic Garden over the seasons and learned about the variety of plants featured in the gardens. Tulsa Botanic Garden also donated some seeds for Mrs. Swift's Advanced Science class to grow in the greenhouse next year!

Today, Student Council leadership showed off their teamwork and critical thinking skills. All 3 teams were able to beat the clock and complete their escape room missions!

At JMS, every department focuses on continuous improvement. Our cafeteria recently started serving these healthy and fit yogurt parfaits for breakfast and a they are a hit!

🏐The 7th annual boys vs girls volleyball game happened today and--wow--look at the talent on both sides of the net! The boys took the W today but the girls are still on top for overall series wins. 🏐

This past Saturday (May 11th), our 7th Grade band students competed with Heartland Music Fest in Guthrie, and then enjoyed great weather the rest of the day at Frontier City. Students received superior ratings as well as the Outstanding Achievement Award. We are so proud of our students' hard work. Thank you to all the parents who chaperoned!

Thank you coaches for organizing a spirited spring pep rally today! We honored sports and clubs plus had a little fun. Parents, ask your kids who won the most competitions--7th grade, 8th grade, or teachers!

Our nurses are wrapping up the week with smiles on their faces and on their feet!
