Maybe you’ve seen their faces. You should know their names. Whether they are assisting families, supporting students and staff, serving meals, or playing a critical role in the safety and maintenance of our school sites, these employees are essential to the success of Jenks Public Schools. Our 2024-25 Classified Employees of the Year set a daily example of hard work and humility. They are universally respected by their colleagues and demonstrate excellence in every aspect of their work. Please join us in congratulating the Classified Employees of the Year!

Happy Spring Break, Trojans! We'll see you on Monday, March 24! 😎

Melodie Beacham-Boyd, 6th grade Pre-Algebra, Math, and Science teacher at Jenks West Intermediate, is the 2024-25 Jenks Public Schools District Teacher of the Year. Beacham-Boyd was selected from a group of 10 JPS Site Teachers of the Year by a committee of JPS administrators, school board members, and Jenks teachers who previously qualified as finalists for Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year. The surprise announcement was made inside Beacham-Boyd’s classroom by Superintendent Dr. Stacey Butterfield, members of the Superintendent’s cabinet, and the West Intermediate principals.

Jenks East Intermediate EL students challenged Ms. Taylor and Ms. Thomas to a game of Are You Smarter Than Your Principals this afternoon! It was a fun and competitive game, but our Trojans came out on top! Better luck next time, principals!

It's #ReadAcrossAmericaWeek and Jenks Southeast Elementary students are celebrating by enjoying DEAR (drop everything and read) time! Here's a look into JSE's 1st grade hallway enjoying their 15 minutes of independent reading. See any familiar books?

51 Jenks West Intermediate students recently became published authors #NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers Month) for the first time! With the help of Ms. Gillean and Ms. Sumner, each student wrote around 10,000-21,000 words, went through an extensive editing process, and even designed the cover artwork themselves. Now these books are available for all students to check out and read in the JWI library. Did we mention they had 30 days? Incredible work, Trojans! Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment!

Congratulations to Jenks High School junior and Thunder Fellow, Alanis Morales, who was recognized by Thunder Fellow staff for her dedication and passion as a cohort member this year. It is student appreciation week at Thunder Fellows, and they wanted to celebrate the hard work she has put toward her Thunder Fellows capstone project, which focuses on why her peers should start watching local news outlets.
Developed by the Oklahoma City Thunder and Creative Arts Agency, the Thunder Fellows Program aims to unlock new opportunities in sports, entertainment, and technology for Black high school and college students in the Tulsa area. For the past year, Alanis has been presented with hands-on experiences to build and enhance an effective skillset for any future endeavors. The opportunities are endless for you, Alanis!

Congratulations to the 19 Jenks East and Jenks Northwest Elementary students who saw months of practice and hard work pay off today as they participated in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Challenge Bowl in Okmulgee. These Trojans have been preparing their knowledge of Creek language, government, and culture since September. We love seeing our students embracing these opportunities!

Students, families, and staff were all given the same book to read, "Saving Winslow" by Sharon Creech. Last night, they had their JWI Reads Night, where students and their families celebrated the joy of reading and enjoyed crafts and games that relate to Saving Winslow. Here's a glimpse into their fun evening of wrapping up this literary journey!

The District Collaboration/Distance Learning Day scheduled for Friday, February 28 is canceled. February 28 will be a normal school day with in-person instruction for all students.
This decision was made due to the extended period of distance learning this week in addition to a higher-than-expected number of days out of school since the start of the new semester. JPS understands and acknowledges the need for students to be at school, learning in classrooms as much as possible before Spring Break begins on March 13.
Shifting Friday, February 28 to an in-person learning day will not extend the school year or change the instructional calendar.
Plan on all school sites being open on Friday, February 28 with regular transportation routes, meal service in cafeterias, and before and after care provided during normal hours.
The final District Collaboration/Distance Learning Day of the 2024-25 school year is scheduled for Friday, April 18.

Congrats to the seniors from Jenks High School who earned the prestigious distinction of 2025 Oklahoma Academic All-State Scholars from the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence!
Eva Mahajan, Lauren Marnell, Harini Senthil, Emily Seo, Mustafa Siddiqui, and Isla Walker are six of the top 100 public high school seniors in the state. They will each receive a $1,500 merit-based scholarship and be honored at the annual Academic Awards Celebration in May in Tulsa.
Academic All-Staters are selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement, as well as letters of recommendation and an essay submitted by each nominee. Way to go, Trojans!

Introducing the 2024-25 Site Teachers of the Year! These educators were selected by their peers at each JPS site because of the way they connect with students, mentor colleagues, innovate in their classrooms, and consistently demonstrate the mission, vision, and values of Jenks Public Schools. These ten individuals are relentless advocates for students and public education. Our community is so fortunate to have teachers like these (and many others), who inspire our next generation of leaders with their genuine care and passion for what they do. Please join us in congratulating them!

Our pool. Our trophies.
Once again, the premier swim programs in Oklahoma claimed their crowns as 6A state champions. The Jenks boys AND girls raced past the competition today and have now combined for 38 state titles - 23 for the boys, 15 for the girls.
Year after year, the top swimming talent in the state resides at the Trojan Aquatic Center and there is no sign of slowing down.
Congrats to these athletes and their coaches on piling up the gold! 🏆

Dr. Butterfield started the week off strong by visiting Jenks East Elementary today! Here's some of the highlights!
First, Dr. Butterfield made new friends in Trojan Rise, then we had to say hello to JEE's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Horgan, and play with her class. Our last stop took us to Dual Language classes where they invited us to sing and dance to celebrate 20 years of the Dual Language Program! The 1st and 2nd grade DLP students surprised Dr. Butterfield with a drawing they created and a message of thanks for supporting their class. We couldn't have asked for a better Monday afternoon! Thank you, JEE!

We've shared Mercy Haokip's inspiring journey at JPS with you in the past. Here's an update about the Jenks High School senior.
In October, Mercy had the opportunity to present at the prestigious Closing the Gap conference in Minneapolis, where she shared her story alongside District Special Education Teaching and Learning Specialist Kirstin Fishback and District Assistive Technology Coordinator, Janna Greathouse. Today, she shared the same presentation, "Finding my Voice and Teaching my Educational Team How to Listen," with JPS Special Education staff to showcase her determination and journey with adaptive technology. We're incredibly proud of you, Mercy! Thank you for continuing to inspire your peers and educators!

Due to the winter weather forecasted for tomorrow, Jenks Public Schools will have a distance learning day on Tuesday, February 18.
All activities, athletic events, and Community Education programs for tomorrow (Tuesday) are canceled and the Early Childhood Center (Little Trojan Academy) is closed.
The decision to have a distance learning day was made because this has potential to be a multi-day weather event with hazardous road conditions and frigid temperatures. No decision has been made about Wednesday. District leaders will continue to monitor the forecast and evaluate conditions, and decisions will be made on a day-by-day basis.
Materials and Chromebooks were sent home with students on Friday. A distance learning day is an instructional day and will not have to be made up at the end of the school year.
Thank you!
