Today we celebrated Avi Gelfand, who is retiring from teaching and moving to be near family. Avi is an incredible educator who has taught both 5th and 6th grade and is loved by all who know her. Avi taught for 19 years in Oklahoma and 17 of those years have been here at JEI. Your JEI family will sure miss you, Avi!!

We need help restocking our JEI Clothes Closet. Gently used or new short sleeved shirts, shorts and shoes are all running low. Thank you for your generosity!

Join us Thursday, May 16 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm for our JEI Family STEM Night. This is a free event and will be held in the JEI Gym. Students must have at least one adult family member with them. We can't wait to see you there!

Open for biz-ness! 😄
This morning, Jenks East Intermediate 5th graders took a trip to Junior Achievement of Oklahoma's BizTown! There students held a town meeting, practiced depositing paychecks, and learned how to work in a variety of industries from banking to healthcare, technology, food service, journalism, and many more. Thank you to the Jenks Public Schools Foundation for making this extraordinary event and unforgettable experience happen!

Jenks teachers are life-changers. Sure, they are preparing lessons and helping students understand concepts, but the job is so much more. They are encouragers, mentors, advocates, and listeners. They believe in your kids. What JPS teachers do for our community and our world cannot be understated or adequately summarized here. You know and understand the true significance of what these remarkable professionals have done for your child. Please join us in celebrating and appreciating our incredible educators, as well as our principals, counselors, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, child nutrition workers, and all support personnel, for answering the call every day and making a difference for the next generation.

Our wonderful music teacher, Anita Hayes, is retiring from her amazing career in education. Ms. Hayes has worked at JEI for the past 17 years but before her time here, she taught music at Jenks MS/HS for 2 years, 1 year at Union 8th/HS and 12 1/2 years at a private school. She has devoted her adult life to sharing her love of music and has definitely made an impact on students! We will sure miss her at JEI but are proud of the legacy she has left with us. Congratulating on your much deserved retirement, Anita Hayes!

JEI Gardening Club, led by Beth Wilson and Nicolette Hall, have been learning about plants and working on the garden areas around the school! Students planted seeds to give away at our upcoming STEM night, weeded and planted in our native plant garden, painted and added chalk art to the raised beds, and added annuals purchased from the high school’s FFA to the containers in the back car pick up and the garden bed by the front door. We are thankful for this group of hard-working 5th and 6th graders!

5th and 6th grade students were recognized with Integrity Character Trait Awards and were cheered on by their classmates. Guests were honored to have a student guest speaker, Mariana Hernandez Velasquez, and our own Mr. Anthony, who both spoke to students about showing courage. Courage is our next Character Trait focus. We are proud of all JEI students for working hard to have great character!

Our final Dynamic Dads of the year was a huge success. Guest speaker, Clay Martin wears many hats. He is currently serving JPS as the Assistant Athletic Director of Community Education and is a National Football League official. You might also recognize him as a former assistant principal at the High School, as well as the former Varsity Boys Basketball coach. He is a great representative of the excellence of Jenks Public Schools. JEI is so appreciative of the special guests who visited students and donated their time to share stories of Courage.

JEI students are so creative! Check out these Mini Art Gallery displays outside of Sara Wofford's classroom.

Five 6th graders represented JEI in round two of the OSSM Math Contest. They went to the OSSM campus in Oklahoma City on Saturday and competed against 6th grade qualifiers from around the state. Johnny Davison and Reyansh Gupta tied for 3rd overall, and Elena ZhangWang placed 2nd! Johnny also won the "best shirt" award. Our other qualifiers, Noelle Barnett and William Gorbet, performed very well. Way to make JEI proud!

IT IS OFFICIAL!
The Jenks Public Schools Board of Education voted to approve Tuesday, May 28 as the last day of school for the 2023-24 school year. June 3 was the original last day of school on the instructional calendar. Because JPS used only one of the five weather days built into the instructional calendar on January 22, the last day of school for students is shifted from June 3 to May 28. Wednesday, May 29 will be a teacher workday at elementary, intermediate, and secondary sites.

Friday, we had some wonderful guests join our students for Marvelous Moms. Students and guests read a story about Integrity, our next Character Trait focus, and played a game called Integrity Ball (similar to a favorite game, Quiet Ball). Thank you to our guests for volunteering your time to invest in our students!

5th graders were entertained by the 6th grade Band and Orchestra students. 5th graders will soon be choosing electives for their 6th grade enrollment and having older students perform just might inspire students to try one of the amazing groups!

Our Jenks East Intermediate PTAG treats us so well! Thank you for the delicious lunch from Chicken Salad Chick! We feel so loved and appreciated!
