The JEI Character Trait assembly was held today and our guest speaker was one of our very own JEI former students. Mercy Haokip is a Jenks High School student who took her challenges and turned them into triumphs. She spoke to our students about perseverance. Two of Mercy's JEI teachers, Kirstin Fishback and Cathey Love, were huge influences in her life and inspired her to see the amazing abilities that she had inside of her, and encouraged her to share them with the world. We are so proud of Mercy! 5th and 6th grade students were honored with medals and certificates for the character trait of Responsibility. Way to go, JEI students! You are such good examples of great character!

Thank a school counselor this week! We are so grateful to our incredible JPS counselors for all they do to enrich and enhance the educational experience for our students. These professionals are teaching character traits, tackling challenges alongside teachers and staff, and providing unmatched care and compassion for all students. Congratulations to the Jenks East Intermediate 6th graders who competed at the MathCounts regional competition today! Our students competed against 6th-8th graders from the NE Oklahoma region. Elena ZhangWang won the top 6th grader award and won an Oplet math program subscription for JEI! We got to celebrate Garrett’s birthday today, too! Finally, a big shout out to JEI alumni in the last three pictures who were competing at the middle school. They won the top overall team award, and Arin Tripathy and Addison Baker were in the top 5 individuals overall. Coach Nicolette Hall is so proud of all of them!

Students in Sra. Allen’s Spanish I class have been reading a chapter book that takes place in Chile.  Today, Sra. Venegas came to share about her home country, and brought many things for the kids to play with and look at. The students enjoyed her visit and learned a lot. We are grateful for parent volunteers!

It's Colonial Day at Jenks East Intermediate, which means JEI 5th graders take a trip back in time to experience the 17th and 18th centuries! Students have been learning about the Colonies and what life was like all those years ago. This afternoon, students engaged in activities like making their own butter from scratch, signing their names on the Declaration of Independence using a quill pen and ink, playing popular 17th and 18th-century games, and drawing the flag. What a fun learning experience for these Trojans!
